You have your product sorted and your website is designed. You have your payment system in place and you're almost ready to go live. All you need to do is write your sales letter. You need a letter that will grab your prospect's interest. A letter that will build credibility. So you write your sales letter rewritten from someone else’s sales copy. You think to yourself "so what if it's borrowed, it will still work".

If that's what you think, you need to think again. Unless you are brilliant, and write the queen of all sales letters, that is basically recycled copy and you will only convert a very small percent of your readers into buyers. You will work all hours of the day and night promoting your site, and still have a small list of prospects. Why?

What you just did was make a grave tactical error. The sales copy is brilliant, but if you do not have a good plan of attack to go with it, chances are you have missed your target market. Simply "borrowing" someone else's sales copy, and using it as your own will not get you prospects. What you need is a well planned letter that is written specifically for your product or service. If your sales letter isn't created to grab the interest of your target market, it will not make the connection with the readers you need to convert them to buyers. To make that connection, and convert a visitor to a buyer, you have to tap into the reader's emotions. To do this, you have to think about what you want to write before your write it.

The next step is to decide what course of action you want your readers to take. Usually this falls into one of two categories, buy something or subscribe to a list. If you want them to buy something, you need to have a "buy now" button, or if you want them to subscribe to your mailing list, you need to have a section where they enter their name and email address. Word of caution, do not have both options on the same sales copy.

A killer sales letter is written to hit the reader's fears, or their desires, and sometimes both. You have to identify the problem your product or service will solve, and how it will solve it. Identify the risks that are involved if the reader does not buy your product or service. In other words, you sales copy has to have an angle for it to be effective.
