With well over 80% of UK adults now owning mobiles, such as the Samsung Pixon 12 - it's worthwhile to take a look at how this impacts how people communicate. First off, keep in mind that there are nearly 74 million mobile connections, with some 44% of UK adults using text messaging on a daily basis. The UK customer sends on average nearly 70 text messages per month, with usage expecting to
increase. 3G subscriptions are growing at a rapid clip. Data from the end
of 2007 put them at 12.5 million. Both texting and picture messaging have
found their way into the vocabularies of mobile users, with no end in
sight.

The trend observed by the Mobile Data Association (MDA) in 2008 was all
about the difference in SMS and MMS usage. The value of MMS technology comes through when a specific event happens, for example over the Christmas period MMS usage peaks. Two numbers worth noting, the total number of
text messages (SMS) sent in 2008 total 78.9 billion, and the total number
of picture messages (MMS) sent in 2008 total 553 million. People are
communicating more and more in short bytes of information, in ways never
thought possible just ten years ago.

The mobile phone industry itself rose out of the cellular phone industry,
which has a long history, but it was only since the late 1990s that
mobiles have taken over, and really only in the last few years that
mobiles have grown from a popular phenomena to a popular necessity. With
fees from network providers now falling into the totally affordable range,
people have flocked to the well. Texting and picture messaging data are
analysed with a fine-toothed comb. The results of the studies may well
determine how the next model of mobile looks and reacts. Buying trends are
based on certain attributes, and the ability of these phones to handle
communication needs is probably pretty close to the top in terms of what
consumers look for.
