Skeleton models can be made of a host of things including casting plaster, plastic but when it comes to the students in lower grades paper is the best solution. This is the easiest and least time consuming way to make a skeleton. Paper is also not a hazardous substance and thus the lower grade students are absolutely safe. All that is required to make a paper skeleton model is a black board, white paper, some glue, a pair of scissors and a model or a picture which needs to be replicated.
The advantage of paper skeleton model is that it is very easy to make and the lower grade students can be taught to make these models themselves. This can be a better learning experience for young students rather than looking at a custom skeleton model. The model needs to look simple for the students to grasp it faster than a over detailed one. These models are also readily available in the market if you wish to buy one for your child.
Paper being lightweight makes it easy to move the skeleton model around compared to one made with casting plaster which is very brittle. The casting plaster models which are used in models for higher eduction are extremely heavy and not easy to move around. The cost of making the paper skeleton models are also very less as compared to other forms of models which is one great advantage in itself. A paper skeleton model can also be repaired easily compared to plastic or casting plaster model.
There is however a great amount of difference between these teaching skeleton models and the medical skeleton models used in medical research with the former being less detailed than the one's used by medical students. In case of higher study of human anatomy three dimensional full scale models are a must where as in case of the lower grade students even an anatomical representation of the human skeleton in smaller size serves the purpose of educating.
The only drawback of a paper skeleton model is that it is not three dimensional in nature. This can also be solved by making individual paper bones and connecting them with one another with a strong base. Being completely bio degradable unlike the plastic skeleton model adds to the advantage of a paper skeleton models. Thus skeleton models made with paper serve as ideal for students in the lower grades.
