I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing( John 15:5) The Bible also says, You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.
Lacking truth? Seek your source that he may give it to you and nourish you with it. Lacking answers concerning you and your life, seek the source that he may give it to you and nourish you with it. As a believer I am against many of the philosophies of the Self-affirmation theories. The last thing we as natural self-centered egotistical human beings need is to total self-affirmation. So going forward, I want you to know what some of these books and articles say. They say something like this:
"You are great in Christ."
"You are significant in Christ."
"You are loved in Christ."
"You are powerful in Christ."
Many of them do not focus on why we are not being fulfilled with knowldge of who we are. They simply just tell you who you are. Great! High five to all of the "Iam" in Christ scriptures. Let's be honest, they do sound great! And they definitely make you feel strong and confident when we say them, right? Now, I am not against the scripture, but rather peoples philosophy behind it. If you affirm those saying, what will it benefit you if you do not live a life according to God's word? What life- changing impact will it have on you if you have not truly been converted? What will it benefit you if it is a affirmation to exalt self, and not said to be used for the building of God's kingdom, and the glorification of his name? What will it benefit you, if you live not according to his word, and declare that scripture? Tell me, what will it benefit you? Absolutely nothing! They mean nothing, do you understand that? You may proclaim the faithful sayings all the days of your life, but unless you have truly been converted by the power of the Holy Spirit, have true fellowship with the King, and a real relationship with God, it will serve you absolutely nothing.
Knowing who you are protrudes from knowing God. It’s rather easy to strut around, and declare, “ I know who I am,” than to be secure of it. I desire for teen girls to know that declaring I know who I am in Christ, is not merely a voice that formally announces something but a statement and a life style that follows with the assurance of the Holy Ghost because the Spirit of God has deposited some of his attributes in you. It takes a working relationship with Christ in order to gain truth to who you are. I tell you today that we may search the highest heights or the loest valleys for self, and never find it outside of Christ. The Bible says, “For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there” (James 3:13). Wonder why you may be confused as to who you are? Seeking self brings nothing but misery, and confusion. Secondly, it is through him that we come into the knowledge of who we are. Paul, in the book of Ephesians give three great points that backs up what I am saying. Paul says, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ…give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him…. That the eyes of your understanding being enlightened that:
1. Ye may know what is the hope of his calling
2. Ye may know what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
3. And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.( Ephesians 1:17-19)
Identity, and purpose is given to us by God through Christ and Christ alone. It is not something we attain on our own. It is no great discovery of our own, and if we suppose that we have found it outside of Christ then it is meaningless, and so was the pursuit. What we need teen girls is not another self affirmation theory. What we need is an understanding of God and his righteousness, then the light bulb comes on and our mind will be totally illuminated and filled with the revelation, and knowledge of who we are in Christ. Then we will cease the search for self, and confront the harassing questions of who am I, and what purpose do I have? In fact John 1:12 says, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name." It clearly states, that God gives us the power to become children of God, and that my friend is what you are children of God. Many teenage girls need to come into the realization of this. Too many are struggling with who God says they are to be. They are struggling with who they ought to be and how they ought to become this figure in their imagination, but I want to assure that knowing who you are is not some great journey outside of Christ. It is not a difficult thing to understand. It does not have to be something you see in other people only. It doesn't even have to be something you affirm with no inner components. He gave YOU the right and the power to become Daughters of God.
The moment you believed in Christ he engraved in you power to arrive in a place of knowing, confidence and security in Christ. You are a people of God, embrace who you are in Christ and seek to know God, and how to please him above all things. In order to grow in the knowledge of who you are, you must grow in the knowledge of Christ and in order to grow in the knowledge of Christ you must be led of the spirit. As I close this blog I like to leave you with one encouraging scripture: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God(Romans 8:14). You see there is a distinction between them that do self-affirmation with no relationship, vs them that do self-affirmation and have a relationship. He first gives us the power to become children of God, but only those who are lead of the Spirit ARE the children of God. I pray that the Holy Spirit will lead you and give you an abundance of wisdom, counsel, knowledge and power to become children of God. Examine yourselves daily, and look to God for what you feel desolate of!
Follow me on my up coming articles. In the mean time be encouraged, and look to Jesus for all of your issues. This week make an great effort to seek God for all things, and study his word above all things. Make an effort to please the Lord, and deny yourself!
