Orlando, recently spotted poolside in Gran Canaria with Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr, has had a spectacular career over the past decade. Ten years ago, he was a struggling student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Taking the stage after a close call with death, Bloom was spotted by an up-and-coming director from New Zealand, Peter Jackson. Jackson approached the young actor with a proposal to star in his Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The Lord of the Rings catapulted Orlando Bloom into the mainstream, and the momentum of the fiery actor has yet to slow down. He co-starred opposite heartthrobs Johnny Depp and Kiera Knightley in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, filming roles for other films in between.
His participation in the collection of film shorts called New York, I Love You shows that he's not just a pretty face for blockbusters. A sort of sequel to Paris, Je T'Aime, this movie brings together well-known actors and directors in a tribute to one of their favourite cities. The film will be followed by his role in the action film The Red Circle.
Orlando Bloom may have chosen to take his holidays in Gran Canaria because of its reputation as a 'mini-continent.' The island has many beautiful, distinct landscapes and a variety of climates, giving visitors the illusion of being on a much larger land mass.
For a relaxing time in a gorgeous city, Bloom could visit Puerto de Mogan, a resort and fishing village on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria. Often referred to as "Little Venice," Puerto de Mogan is full of canals linking different areas of the town to one another. The Friday market attracts tourists from all over the island, so Bloom could find the perfect gift for Kerr.
The wild bird preservation area, Palmitos Park, contains many species unknown outside Gran Canaria. With Kerr by his side, Bloom could take in the sights of some of the rarer species of birds in Africa. Of course, the scenery is also gorgeous, with vistas that most people only see in the movies.
If he tires of the heat of the southern coast, Bloom could always travel to the northern side of Gran Canaria. This is where the climate is cooler, and the pace is slower. The prices of goods and services drop steeply in the north, which is great for frugal travelers. Of course, someone of Bloom's status doesn't really need to penny pinch as much as the rest of us.
Whatever Orlando Bloom's reason for taking a holiday in Gran Canaria, it's certain to be a great vacation. With a plethora of breathtaking natural landscapes and some of the best shopping in the Eastern Hemisphere, this little island has something to offer everyone.
