Golf
As might be expected, where there is business and commerce there is golf, and Dubai is home to numerous upmarket golf clubs. Perhaps the most famous is Emirates, which contains two all-grass championship courses and was opened in 1988. The quieter and more tranquil Dubai Creek Golf Course is handily combined with a yacht club and features the architecturally impressive clubhouse. In 2005, Golf World named Dubai Creek one of the Top 100 Must-Play Golf Courses in the World.
Skiing
Despite the hot and arid climate of the area, golfing does not seem to out of place in Dubai - however skiing may seem a little stranger. The city is home to Ski Dubai, often considered the biggest indoor ski arena in the world and housed in one of the biggest malls in the world: The Mall of the Emirates. Ski Dubai covers 22,500 square metres of land with real snow all year round, and at full capacity can contain 1,500 people. The run is 85 metres high and boasts an ultra efficient insulation system to keep the daytime temperature at -1 degrees Celsius.
Water parks
Dubai is also home to a number of water parks, the most popular of which being Wild Wadi just 20 minutes from the city centre and adjacent to the Burj Al Arab. There are thirty water rides within the complex including ring rides, surfing and the 33 metre tall Jumeirah Sceirah. The park also offers special times for groups such as family mornings and ladies night.
Sports City
If indulging in watching sport rather than doing it is more to your fancy, then why not take a visit to Sports City? Although not yet completed, the arena is currently holding the Australia Vs Pakistan Cricket Series through May. Yet, somewhat surprisingly, Netball and Rugby are also becoming popular for spectators and players alike in the city - with the Rugby Sevens tournament being hosted on the outskirts of the city, in a stadium aptly called ‘The Sevens'.
