The temple city of Haridwar holds the gate way to the char dham. However, Rishikesh And Dehradun which is the capital city of Uttaranchal too provides access to them.
Yamunotri is the geographical source of the famous Indian river Yamuna but it holds high rank among pilgrims as it is believed to be the seat of goddess Yamuna.A full day has to be spent in order to reach here from Haridwar, Rishikesh Or Dehradun.But the real test lies in the six hour walk from Hanuman Chotti which is the last motorably accessibly place. The next site is Gangotri, which is the source of the most important Indian River Ganga and is the dwelling place of goddess Ganga. Thus, it is listed high in both geographical and religious terms. Another two day’s journey from here leads one to heights of Kedarnath one of the most remotely accessible dham. Though the entire region is beautiful beyond description but Kedarnath is unique. The last of the four is the Badrinath, which is away by two day’s journey from here. Here the density of the visitors is much higher compared to other sites.
