Some people like to just stay home for New Years and not do a lot, but if you're not one of them you can head out for a nice break at the Isles of Scilly. That area has a lot to offer no matter what you're looking for, and that's part of what makes it so very popular with many people on holiday, especially during the holiday season. Being less than thirty miles from Cornwall is a huge benefit when it comes to convenience, yet it's still far enough and different enough that you'll really feel like you can get away whenever you like. The climate there is subtropical, but you can find extremes of weather and temperature, so check the forecast and be prepared for weather changes, especially if you do go for New Years – winter can be the most unpredictable. In the morning you can bask on the beach, but by the time the evening rolls around there could be storms and you'll be better off curled up in front of a warm fire with a nice hot drink. It's an amazing contrast and it's like being in another world compared to Cornwall and other nearby areas. Things are also slower-moving on the Isles of Scilly, and you can relax and enjoy yourself without pressure to do anything at all.
A lot of people from the UK go to Scilly for short breaks in the winter so that they can get away from the cold and rainy weather that they often experience. People from other countries visit Scilly as well, but not that many of them know about the benefits of going to the Isle of Scilly in wintertime or how completely different the climate can be. There are self-catering cottages that you can enjoy, and there are also nice hotels. Which one you choose depends on how much privacy you want and how much you want to do on your own. If you want to be catered to, you can get that. If you'd rather do things more independently and enjoy more freedom, you can get that, too. That and the climate are generally the main benefits of the Isle of Scilly.
