Both Everton and Chelsea have passionate support, and no doubt the 50,000 ardent fans of each club are going to make the atmosphere electric. Those 50,000 fans will have purchased their tickets via their respective clubs as season ticket holders (meaning they have purchased a season’s subscription to every home game of their club), but many will have lost out. It is a shame, seeing as Wembley holds not 50,000 people, but 90,000! What happens to the rest of the tickets?
The majority of the 40,000 tickets left over go to sponsors and corporate partners of the FA, others go to the “football family” themselves – those who have worked behind the scenes and so on. A shame that so many are allocated to “non fans”, as it’s not every day that your team gets to the final of such a prestigious event. It is understandable that many go to the sponsors etc, but not so to the football family. Surely, they could be rewarded by being given tickets to England international games? England rarely sells out when it plays, so it would make more sense to bolster numbers in these games, rather than the FA Cup final, where every fan wants to see their team play.
So, while the average fan will have no chance of buying a ticket via their club unless they are season ticket holders, it means they have to search elsewhere for access to the most prestigious footballing showpiece in the world.
