Another alarming figure that has recently been reported for this demographic is the increased use of credit cards to pay off other debts. Additionally due to the high amount of debt payments many find themselves the line and credit cards for day to day survival.
There have been increased instances of bankruptcy within the under 25 demographic. This is alarming to many within the credit counselling industry. They feel that with proper debt management through their services, the under 25 group cannot only alleviate their debt problems but also receive an education in consumer spending which many young people today are lacking.
When securing the services of a consumer credit counsellor, the clients will provide the counsellor with all information regarding their debts as well as all sources of income. The counsellor will then negotiate with creditors for possible interest rate reductions or even eliminations. The counsellor will draw up a debt repayment plan that typically requires one monthly payment made by the client to the counsellor. In most cases this payment is significantly lower than the multiple payments paid by the client. It is then the counsellor responsibility to pay all the accounts with the monthly payment.
