Brain injuries can be a difficult subject to address. Some brain injuries have resulted from significantly violent and dangerous events that they cause damage to the person for the rest of their lives. Some brain injuries are not as severe, although any time a brain injury is even talked about it causes people to have a pause. When a sudden, violent collision occurs, it can cause major bleeding to the brain, symptoms which include headache and pain, among other things. There are two areas where people are most familiar with brain injuries.
Football players often receive violent hits and receive what is often called concussions. Concussions are not considered serious, although they can be very serious, especially when someone receives multiple dangerous hits. Another example of where a large number of brain injuries are present is during the news coverage in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many people sustain traumatic injuries from bomb blasts. However, thanks to some very brave people and the growth and development in technology, many of these people are saved and in some cases are able to recover, depending on the exact injury that they have sustained.

Brain injuries are also caused by clinical negligence. While it does not happen that often, they are major events and severe when they do occur. Some of the ways that medical practice and mistakes can cause brain injuries include: problems during the course of a surgery, such as anaesthesia not being performed correctly, and a wrong treatment for an injury. Failing to treat a tumour in a correct and timely way can also cause a brain injury. When a brain injury occurs because of medical malpractice, most of the time there will be a lawsuit that will be filed against the medical provider. These lawsuits require special attention because of the seriousness of a lot of these injuries. Some of the time, the injuries party is so hurt that they are unable to represent themselves in the lawsuit. When this occurs, the plaintiff's family will act on behalf of the injured person. The awards in these kinds of cases, if medical error is proved to be the cause of the brain injury, can be significant.
