•Firstly, identify the most attractive benefit your product has to offer and highlight the same. Choose a benefit that you think is most functional and unique. Highlight the aspect that makes the particular feature different from other such features in the market. For example this feature may be the most sturdy and reliable or it may offer something that you cannot find in any other similar products. Or this feature may just be lesser priced than others in the market.
•Highlighting one particular feature, list all other features explaining how each one of them can benefit the customer. An interesting method of writing this most effectively is to imagine you are the customer and the feature is explained to you. Ask yourself what is it that attracts you to the said feature and how does it benefit you.
•As you explain the features, make it very specific. For example rather than saying a particular feature makes your product work faster, you can say it helps provide customers a lot of valuable free time. Be creative and paint some exciting mental pictures of what they could actually do in their free time.
•Give utmost attention to headlines. Headlines should grab a reader’s attention as soon as he glances at it. The importance of this has to be stressed because in today’s world people are flooded with myriad information. You actually have just a second or less to attract the reader with a unique and powerful headline and entice him/her continues reading further. Ensure your principle selling feature finds a place in the headline.
•Use emotional tactics to effectively connect the customer to the product. This works wonders especially if you are selling a consumer product such as soap or talcum powder. Remember that the most important matter in your sales letter is in the first few paragraphs. If you cannot hold the reader’s attention there then you may lose a potential customer. Here again, highlight your strongest selling points. Explain in such a manner that you create a strong desire and compulsion in the person to reach out and try your product immediately.
•When people read about experiences of others who have used a particular product, it gives them a sense of trust. So, you can include interesting testimonials that sound authentic and believable. This will establish your credibility with your potential customers.
•Ensure the language you use in sales letters is not too high and mighty or flowery. Keep it simple, pleasant and readable. In fact write just as you would talk to a person.
•Stick to a consistent tone throughout the letter. If you decide to keep the tone light, then continue so till the end. If you want the letter to sound serious, keep in mind your target readers and write accordingly.
•Offering certain incentives towards the end of the letter is a good idea which can actually make the reader sign up. You could offer some percentage discount on the product making it sound like a special offer for a limited period of time or you could just offer a complete money back guarantee.
•End your sales letter with a compulsive call for action such as “Sign up Now” or “Order Now”. Keep the process of ordering simple and customer friendly.
As you sell a product, you just work on your customer’s psyche to convince him/her that there is nothing better than your product and that they are losing out on something valuable if they do not act immediately. Every advertising initiative is to compel and create a strong need to make potential customers order then and there. Create a sense of urgency by limiting your offers within a time frame.
Most importantly, offer whatever you promise or rather promise only what you can offer. Under no circumstances should you say something and provide something else. This will have a negative impact on your business.
