There is a real big difference. Planning for marketing and sales are not the same thing. In fact, they are two separate entities. Sadly, many marketers think that the two are similar and that spending time planning one or the other is enough to make a difference especially in their campaigns such as postcard printing or print postcards.

Although they do complement each other and it would be easier for you if you work them together, marketing and sales have different definitions. While you need both to be effective to your target market, differentiating the two elements can make a big difference in your business.

So how do you differentiate the two?

1. Marketing is looking and finding for clients for your business; while sales is about getting those target customers to buy from you.

The former is all about having strategies and techniques to use in order for you to be able to reach out to your target clients. This is especially true for those target audience that are not yet part of your client base. When marketing to them, you would want to convince them to do business with you. You then focus on making your business as interesting and appealing to these target audience that they would want to have a business relationship with you. Here is where your print ads such as your postcard printing or print postcards come in. They help you provide the best brand image to your target audience.

Sales, on the other hand, are ensuring that these target clients buy a product or service when they are in your business. It is not the whole image that you are trying to sell to your target audience, but the experience of engaging in business with you. It is your customer service and the way you provide your offer that would clinch the sale.

2. Marketing is all about your image – how your customers see your business.

When you do your marketing, you would want your target audience to see that you are the best in the market and that it would be a loss for them if they do not work with you.

In contrast, sales make sure that your clients actually get what you have promised when marketing. It ensures that your customers get the product or service that fit their expectations.

3. Marketing is all about the whole of your business, while sales would have to do with the nitty gritty of having a business.

This means that keeping a good image is all about marketing; sales, on the other hand, is making sure that you have a thriving business, which means you have gained profits, generated leads as well as buying customers every day.

By differentiating between the two, you will be able to look at your business with new eyes and see a different perspective that would help you increase your profits for your business.
