Introducing yourself is part and parcel of marketing your business. If you can successfully introduce who you are, what you do, and what business you are in, you will more than likely get people to remember you.

However, one of the worst things that any marketer and business owner can do is to blunder along the introduction process. Designing business card printing and then handing out print business cards are often preferable than actually having a personal introduction. In fact, if you can just give your print business cards and leave it at that you may just survive any business lunch or networking dinner.

But during these events, a personal introduction is a must. It goes without saying that along with the dinner or lunch buffet, standing up and introducing yourself is part of the menu. But have you ever noticed that not much is said that makes a difference during these introductions? You practically hear the same thing from each and every individual in your table and the rest of the other people in that networking dinner.

You say your name, your work, and your company name. And then at the end of every statement, there is the same rise of pitch at the end that makes it sound like you are not sure whether what you are saying is true or not.

There are two problems with this kind of introduction: for one thing, your introduction is boring and sounds just like those introductions made before you. There is nothing that makes you stand out and remembered. For another, your statements sound more like questions rather than confident and assured sentences that make an impact in the minds of your audience.

Not only do you come off as nothing different and unique, but you are also giving yourself and your business a poor representation that reflects greatly of how incompetent and unprofessional you are. Such characteristics really score the lowest to any target client or prospect.

The key is to make yourself as different and as unique from all the other persons in the room so you can make a better impact than the other Bob in your table. You have to be able to stand out from the crowd when you introduce yourself because that way, you can get your audience to remember you and keep you in their minds as that professional salesman who made himself unique with his presence and confidence.

So the next time you are in a conference and everyone is expected to introduce themselves, speak confidently and make a personal introduction that speaks volumes of who you are – a confident and assured businessman/woman who knows his/her business.
