Knowing that you are dreaming.

The kind of dream in which you find yourself in control of what you are dreaming is called a lucid dream. It certainly can be a strange experience. Sometimes I have dreamt that I have got up, had a shower, dressed, had breakfast and set off to work only to realise that I have just dreamt all these things and that I am still dreaming. It is a wonderful way to ensure that you are late for work but a rather difficult excuse to explain. Despite all the research into dreams I think that their primary purpose is to prolong sleep by incorporating external and internal stimuli that would otherwise wake you up.
Perhaps my reluctance to get up in the morning has something to do with my bed. I have always believed that a comfortable bed is one of the most important things in life. Mine is certainly very comfortable and I did spend quite a lot of money on it, but I consider it as an investment. A good night's sleep sets you up for the day and increases your productivity. I have little doubt that my subconscious mind conspires to maximise the time I spend in it but really it is just maximising my return on investment and what is wrong with that?

About the Author
I am so comfortable in my bed at night due to my plush mattress that sometimes realise that I am dreaming during my dream. It is quite strange to find yourself saying to yourself in your sleep that this is only a dream. Sometimes I take this even further and dream that I have woken up and recalled the dream that I have just had and realise that I am still asleep and dreaming. I have even found this so amusing during my sleep that I have started laughing in my sleep and wake up laughing. I wake up laughing a few times a year on average which must be a little disturbing for the person I am sleeping with.
