Purchasing a Shed

One aspect to consider is assembly. Because it is quite common for parts to not match and for screw lengths to be somewhat ambiguous and difficult to identify from small photocopied diagrams, it can be money well-spent to have the company assemble the shed for you. This is especially true if the shed is made of metal, since misaligned screw holes are more difficult to rectify than those of a wooden shed. For plastic sheds any pulling and tugging can lead to cracked and split components.
Wooden sheds have wooden bases and sit on a pre-prepared concrete or slab base giving the shed a lot of its strength. Timber Sheds are a fantastic choice for any family garden as they are strong, versatile and fit in with the surroundings. Metal and plastic sheds often do not have a floor (shed base) and need to be fixed to a base using a fixing kit. This can lead to a problem since strong winds can cause the shed to collapse. This effect is exacerbated by the flimsiness of the materials used. Metal sheds are really corrugated iron sheds, and as such can possess little inherent strength.
Another aspect to consider is the hardiness of your shed. Wood can and does rot. Frequent and careful treatment with protective paint or varnish can keep wood rot-free. Metal and plastics do not rot. Metal sheds are usually zinc-dipped to prevent corrosion. Plastic, however, will photo-degrade and becomes brittle, and therefore likely to crack. This effect can be diminished by placing the shed in a shady corner.
If you desire a shed in which to spend some time, rather than just as storage, it is worth considering the thermal properties of your shed. Metal sheds can be very hot in the sun and very cold out of it. It is therefore useful to insulate the shed. Whilst some sheds lend themselves to insulation, a metal shed might not. In addition the temperature changes can lead to condensation. This can play havoc with any delicate possessions and electrical goods within the shed.
