Exposure to asbestos can have a large number of negative consequences for the victim, so it is important to know where this poison may be found and what it actually is. Over the last few years there have been a rising amount of people making asbestos compensation claims as a result of exposure to asbestos. This is because more information about it has been discovered, and more people have been diagnosed as having the symptoms of exposure to it.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that gives off poisonous fumes, which can lead to cancer, as well as a number of other diseases, in those that are exposed to it. It is resident to fire and water, as well as other harmful substances. For this reason it has been used in the past in various implements that are commonly found around the house, for example in safety blankets and ironing board covers. Asbestos has been used in such household objects since the nineteen seventies, as at this point it was not known that it could potentially be harmful. It was seen as a useful and safe thing to have in the home, since it was fireproof.

Although there is no such thing as a safe amount of exposure to asbestos, it is still used in things that can be found in the home today. It is commonly found in such things as ceiling tiles, loft insulation and roof work. The growth of asbestos is very difficult to control, since it is odourless and naturally occurring. However, regular checks can be carried to ensure that it is not present in the home. This should be done by safety experts in businesses and schools. If asbestos is detected trained workers should be brought in to get rid of it. The naturally occurring crystals of asbestos often build up in walls, ceilings and roves, and this is why caution should be taken, as it may not always to easy to detect.
