Constipation is a sure sign that something is wrong. It happens if stool accumulates in his rectum and causes a blockage. If your child is potty trained, but he does not want to take time away from playing to go to the bathroom, or feel embarassed about using the public bathroom, he can soon develop constipation.
One of the most common fecal incontinence symptoms with constipation are stomach aches. Your child feels bloated since there is a build up of fecal matter in his body. The blockage in the retum, in turn, causes an uncomfortable cramping.
Fecal incontinence symptoms may also worsen due to the impact on your child. For instance, if your child has a stomach ache, such as I just mentioned, he may also suddenly stop wanting to eat. Even if he is hungry, he may refuse to eat due to his hurting stomach.
One of the most embarrassing fecal incontinence symptoms for a child is leakage. If your child has soiled his underwear, then it is possible that he has not realized it. It happens because liquid further up in his bowel leaks down past the solid blockage.
Painful, straining bowel movements are also fecal incontinence symptoms. In other words, when your child finally does go to the bathroom, it may hurt, because there has been such an accumulation of feces. You might think that, once he goes to the bathroom, the problem will be over. However, this is not always the case. Since it hurts, he may be reluctant to go to the bathroom and his continence problem may just get worse.
It is good to know that there are easy treatments for fecal incontinence in children. It is important that you consult the physician of your child. The physician may prescribe something appropriate to help unblock your childs bowel and also give you some dieting tips to ease constipation. You can also implement regular use of toilet at set intervals every day. By getting your child on a bathroom schedule, it is possible for bowel movements to become more regular and smooth.
