medicinal treatment to drug addicts, but also help them get mentally
strong. We all know how drugs can
destroy the well being of the society and country. Every individual has his
role to play in the society and when some of us start behaving irresponsibly,
it is the society that suffers. Drug
rehabilitation centers treat these broken limbs of the society thereby treating
the society itself.
Lives have become hard for many people these days due to changed lifestyles,
high pressures to perform and the do or die attitude of the society. Many
people, finding unable to match the set standards, take solace in escapist
activities like taking drugs. Of course
there mare many other reasons for a person getting addicted to drugs or
alcohol, but the underlying fact about all of them is a sense of
inferiority. Once caught in this
quicksand, he is doomed, if outside help does not come along. Cutting off the supply of these drugs is not
a permanent solution. It may lead to
severe withdrawal symptoms and the addict may even kill oneself.
Another factor to be noted is the deposit of sediments from drugs in the body
which can be harmful in the long term.
They not only impair the normal functioning of body parts, but also cause
recurring of drug cravings. It is to
such deposits in the body that a person is actually addicted to. Removal of them is a time consuming and harsh
process, which only trained professionals working in controlled atmosphere, can
do. Such a positive environment can be provided only by dedicated drug
rehabilitation centers.
The number of addicts in our country is showing a sharp rise. It means that drug control measures adopted
by the society are not fully successful.
However, for addicts, hope is here in the form of drug rehabilitation
centers. A hospital can treat the body;
a mental asylum can treat the mind. But
here, the centers treat the body and the mind simultaneously.
Rehabilitation centers employ a multitude of measures to cure the body and mind
of the addict. First the body is
cleansed of all harmful elements by use of medicinal drugs and exercises. Withdrawal symptoms shown by the addict at
this stage are taken kindly, and the addict gets a taste of what care and love
is. Most centers allow a close relative
to stay with the addict to make him or her feel comfortable.
The centers run several programs to impart life skills and instill confidence
in the now reformed addict. After some
months in the centre, the victorious ex-addict walks out, ready to face any
challenges that may be thrown at him.
Some centers continue to give advices even long after the person leave
for the outside world. This prevents
re-addiction.
