Deepening Trance State

Generally when I’m working and have multiple sessions I like to work fast. An instant induction, test for somnambulism or just see if their eyes are moving around a lot, deepen for three or four minutes and then get to work. When you conduct a session like this, even though you may regress the person back to the womb, they generally won’t think they were hypnotized. If you deepen a lot, let’s say for a half hour or more, believe me, they will know that they were hypnotized! After that much deepening when you emerge from hypnosis you feel as though you’ve just come back from another world, it’s a nice experience.
To deepen a person you can use counting with suggestions of relaxation. You can go through their body and describe each muscle letting go. You can use a period of silence, “And in this period of silence each breath just takes you so much deeper than the previous and that period of silence begins now.” You can also use imagery. Have them imagine they are flying over a forest, so free, so light, not a care in the world. I now use a little stereo in my office and tell them, “I am now going to give you a moment of silence so you can enjoy this relaxation. In this moment of silence every breath takes you deeper than the previous and I will turn up the relaxing music that will allow this relaxation to become even deeper.”
I have been working under the context of doing things quickly, not spending much time to deepen the state - wanting the subject to quickly respond to me when I ask questions so they don’t engage their conscious mind. I’m beginning to go the other way and deepen much more. If the subject is very deep in hypnosis the answers are just there, very quickly and easily. If you deepen enough they will enter the “Superconscious” state where they will be able to answer questions regarding detailed spirit world memories. We will discuss these topics later in chapter six.
The Hypnotic Session
After they are hypnotized and deepened then it’s time to get to work. The whole part of hypnotizing and deepening, testing for depth, is mostly a sidebar to me at this point in my career. It’s what you do when they are in this state that is the important part. The hypnotist has many options at this point. He or she can read from a script, such as a smoking cessation script. You can regress to a cause and fix the root of the problem. There are other methods such as TimeLine therapy. You can use various tried and true methods to correct whatever the problem is that you’re dealing with.
One method I should mention here is called “Parts Therapy.” I generally tell the person that they have different parts of themselves that have conversations with each other. For example, when the alarm clock goes off in the morning a part of you knows you have to get up and go to work but there is another part of you that just wants to hit the snooze button or turn the alarm off altogether. Or another example would be if you’re at the mall and see some shoes you really want to buy (generally I use the shoe example for women only) one part of you is saying, “I love these shoes and have to buy them!” while the other part of you is more like, “I’d better wait for a sale…” I use parts therapy for many different problems, one of them being weight loss. “There is a part of you that really wants this change of, size eight, one hundred and forty pounds, but there is another part of you that is blocking this change.” Under hypnosis you can have these parts communicate with each other to find out where the problem is. Maybe one part is harboring something called a “Secondary Gain”, a part that really wants to hold onto these perpetual headaches, weight, or some other issue because the person is getting a lot of attention and sympathy from others by doing so. If you find a part like that you can convince it that it will still get attention and be loved without going to the extreme measure of needing to keep the problem.
