New restaurants are being opened all the time and with whole sections of the city being divided into different food experiences than there can be no doubt that Birmingham is stamping its new and improved mark all over good food guides everywhere.
Taking over from Bradford as the curry capital of the country, the curry of the Balti Triangle in Bradford is the real thing. The area houses over 50 different Balti houses so you can be assured that your going to be spoilt for choice. The Rough Guide thinks that Bradford’s Balti Triange is so good that it has put it in at number 15th of the must-do list in the whole of the UK!
The BBC good food show is to be held in Birmingham on the 26th – 30th November 2008 at the NEC. This event includes a line up of some top celebrity chefs to give cooking demonstrations, an exhibition that includes over 500 different stall exhibitors and plenty of opportunities to try signature dishes from the city’s best restaurants. There is wine tasting and whether you prefer traditional or temporary cooking there are opportunities to grab culinary tips from the countries most talented chefs. Tickets vary from £22 for the standard package to £75 for the VIP package. Many of the ticket options in between offer “dinner” packages also.
The Hotel Du Vin (the biggest Hotel Du Vin in the country) has made it’s home in what was the grand looking Birmingham Eye Hospital. Head chef Nick Turner has done a splendid job in the Bistro at the hotel making it the ideal place to stop over in Birmingham; you won’t even need to step outside to find one of the best restaurants in town. The Bistro serves lunch and dinner and has a small but effective menu which enables the chef to really concentrate on the flavours and presentation of the dishes rather than on cooking lots of fiddly dishes at once. The Hotel Du Vin is located in Birmingham’s Mailbox shopping mall, one of the most popular shopping destinations in Birmingham. If you can not afford to eat at the Du Vin then during the day the Mailbox houses several cafes and mini restraints that serve well reviewed food.
