I have spent most of this week sat on trains. I know that it's not many people's idea of fun and it is not usually my idea of a great time either yet something about this week has been rather relaxing. Maybe it's something to do with the gentle rocking of the carriages or the knowledge that you have time on your hands that you can spend simply daydreaming. There is not much you can be doing whilst you are travelling and I make the most of every delectable second that I have to myself...free to let my mind wander as my eyes absently wander over distant hills and plastic bags impaled on brambles.

Expensive as they are nowadays, I have been using this method of transport for the past week because I have forgotten to renew my car insurance. I would like to point out again that it is not because I can't afford it, I simply forgot.

If I were an analytical person I could say that it was a Freudian slip. A way of relinquishing my usual mode of transport for an altogether lazier one, one where I can look out of the window and play with my radio without worrying about the consequences of my actions.

There have only been a couple of times where the pleasant natures of my journeys have been interrupted. Once was when I became stuck in the weekend rush hour traffic. The second time was when I got on the wrong train and then couldn't get off again because the pompous self-important stationmaster refused to let the driver open the doors. This was despite the doors having being opened accidentally in the first place and also despite the tens of angry businessmen who were trying to board on the platform.

After five minutes I decided to climb out of the window. It was a good job the doors were eventually opened before I managed to get my leg out otherwise the whole situation could have been far more embarrassing.

Why is it that almost every person who works at a train station and is over the age of 24 acts like they are running the country rather than a few trains. Maybe it's a requirement of a job in public transport to have Hitler tendencies...I don't know?

I will be quite sad when the week comes to a close and I have run out of excuses not to renew my car insurance. I could go on like this but I know that I would soon run out of money buying train tickets everywhere. It's a good job that I am already longing to get back out on the road, air conditioning whistling through my hair at just the right temperature.
