Teaching Fellowship May Replace Many Jobs

Let’s face it, currently the economy is not being a very adaptive place for students who have just graduated from college. College graduates across the globe are searching and searching yet not finding the end result that they are looking for. School’s budgets are being cut as more and more students that have graduated with teaching credentials are finding themselves with no place to find work. It’s a sad situation but the truth of the matter is that schools are now finding that they can employ these graduates with a Teaching Fellowship instead of a full time position. When a school decides to take offer a teaching fellowship they are truly getting the best of both worlds. Not only are they cutting back on the number of teachers that they have to keep on staff but they are also getting quality teachers without having to pay out health insurance and other benefits that full time teachers get.

A teaching fellowship is another name for a paid internship that is given to those with promise in the educational field. It can differ from school to school and from district to district. A teaching fellowship is usually paid and actually gives the recipient a lot of responsibility in the classroom. Many times if a full time teacher goes on some sort of leave, a teaching fellowship is given to take over the classroom instead if having to hire and expensive substitute. In this case the person who was given the Teaching Fellowship would assume all of the responsibilities of the teacher who had been teaching the class in the first place. Not only is this person given all of the responsibility of a full time teacher, but they are also given many other responsibilities to ensure that they are a good fit for that class and that school.

A teaching fellowship is also a great way for someone who is currently in school or getting their masters to decipher if teaching something that they truly want to do in life. For many times teaching requires more than many other jobs as you have to be personally invested with those to whom you are teaching and the surrounding community. The passion that is involved in teaching is tremendous, and many times people decide that through a fellowship that the educational field is truly not for them.

There are so many great way to go through your career in the educational industry and taking on a fellowship is a great way to truly see if this is what you want to do for the rest of your life. The other side of the story is that for many more experienced teachers who are finding themselves out of work are finding that their former jobs are being replaced by teaching fellowships. This can be a disheartening thought and realization, as many school districts simply cannot afford to keep them on full time even if their salary comes from the government.
