So what exactly are audio books?
Audio books are just recorded versions of actual books read by actors or by people who have good voices.
Where are they available?
The growing popularity of audio books is evident. They are usually available almost everywhere. You may try checking your local library if they have the titles of your favorite books in audio book versions. A bookstore is one obvious place. There are even audio book rentals in some areas. They can also be downloaded from the internet. If you decide to just download, then you are saving yourself from a lot of trouble, not to mention money. Some websites offer them for free on just selected titles of audio books, though. While others offer them for a discounted price, some still sell them at higher amounts.
Unfortunately, even if audio book downloads are very cheap, you will have to use broadband instead of a dial-up internet connection in order to download the complete file faster. You also have to make sure that your computer memory is still high to avoid getting hang-ups.
When are they available?
Usually, right after a book is published and released an audio book version of it is then recorded and released. Just check the nearest bookstore or library in your area for posting. You can also find books with audio books for free. They are usually books for learning a new language.
Is there a specific way of storing them properly?
Like everything else, audio books also need to be carefully kept to be able to retain its quality since unlike a book, they are more prone to wear, tear and even scratches. Audio books in cassette tape formats may come in bulk since a single cassette tape is only capable of storing up to a maximum of three chapters of a book. That said, you should opt for cassette tape racks or better yet, have a drawer, with just the right dimensions of a cassette tape, custom-made. This way, not only is it stylish, but it can also make your collection seem more organized. The same goes for CDs, except for one thing. CDs are more prone to breakage so you will need to handle them with extra care. Audio books that come in mp3 files, on the other hand, are the easiest to keep. You can store them in you computer's memory, in a portable media player or transfer them to a CD.
