Personal Storage Table (.pst) file is the Outlookrsquo;s file where emails, notes, contacts, appointments, etc. are stored. As soon as the file grows older, its size starts growing; therefore, you need to change its location from its default location so that you can assign more space to it. By default, the .pst file is saved at following location in Windows operating system 2003:

Drive:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
In the above syntax, drive represents the hard disk partition where MS Outlook is installed. By default, the Outlook is installed in C drive.

This default location can be changed by making some modifications in the registry. Execute the following steps to change the default location:

1.Close the Outlook, if it is running.

2.Click Start - Run. The Open dialog box appears.

3.In the Open dialog box type regedit and press the ENTER key or click the OK button. The registry window opens up.

4.Now, find out the following key in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook

5.Once you have located the above given key, click New in the Edit menu.

6.Then, click the String value.

7.Type Force PST path in the text box.

8.Press the ENTER key.

9.Now, select the ForcePST string and click the Modify button.

10.Now, type the full location where you want to save the Outlook.pst file.

11.Click the OK button.

12.Restart your computer system.

Following the above given steps, the default location of Outlook.pst will be changed. However, before making any change in the registry, you must understand that any wrong change in the registry key may also damage the .pst file. Once the .pst file is damaged, all of the emails, notes, contacts, to do items, etc. become inaccessible. Therefore, you come across the data loss, which is not so easy to bear. In case, the PST file is damaged after modifying the registry keys, you need to repair the file to recover the lost data.

PST Reader software can be a help for you in that scenario. The PST reader software is specifically designed to help you recover the lost emails, notes, contacts, etc. The software thoroughly scans the damaged .pst file, repairs the file, and recovers all email items.
