Sure, teachers have after school hours for extra help, but they have at least five classes each full of kids like me that needs help. Fifteen minutes after school twice per week with every other kid that needs help stuffed in the classroom with me is not exactly the extra help that I am looking for. My mom couldn't help either. She has no clue about trig and chemistry. The fact is that it's just been too long since high school for her to be able to help me get back on track, not that she hasn't tried.
I was checking out some homework helper web sites were supposed to help me get control of my grades. Free services are great, they offer lots of stuff for you to do to exercise the things that you do understand, but they don't have the exercises and individual attention that I needed to train myself to learn the concepts that I was missing. Unfortunately, time was running out. The more time that went by, the more concepts I was missing the boat on, and the worse the trouble was getting. I needed help fast.
I came across this one service that seemed to have just what I needed. TransWebTutors.com claimed to have live specialists that were always online to help. They said that they were there for anything from homework help to test prep and more. The tutoring could be real-time or on an email basis and it would be one-on-one. When I read all of this I thought that I had better get my mother to read it, she knew that I needed direct attention to work out the kinks.
We decided that I would try out the service and see how I felt about it. She said that I didn't have to continue with the service if it was uncomfortable or unproductive. When I started out with them first, I was not sure what I could expect from these sessions. It turns out that I got all of the attention that I needed from a patient tutor that was well versed in both trigonometry and chemistry (chemistry and math are really closely related). He guided me through some of the areas that I had the most trouble in.
After a few sessions of review and practice, I began to see the concepts taking hold, and I was catching up with the class again. This report card I have gone from a low C in both subjects to a B+ in chemistry and an A- in trigonometry. I can't say how lucky I am that I came across TransWebTutors.com when I did, otherwise who knows what my grades would have looked like by now. I still visit TransWebTutors.com when I feel like I need some support in a subject. They have really turned my junior year around.
