The answer to this question is both yes and no.

Having run various companies over the past 30 years, people perceive me as a successful business man with a large network of business friends and associates, which makes me a highly attractive commodity in the world of network marketing.

After being invited to join different MLMs over a dozen times, I quickly learned that these business concepts are legitimate and are attracting a lot of people due to the decline of the traditional career path in the 21st century. Many are hungry for financial independence and more financial security. Many are aggressively and actively researching business opportunities that will help them supplement their incomes. Even more are looking for a way to take control of their lives.

Recognizing these shifting trends and being a successful businessman, I took a more careful look at MLMs and Network Marketing. The first thing I discovered is that when you go online, there's quite a diverse range of opinion on the industry.

Some people refer to MLMs as get-rich-quick schemes, pyramid schemes or other less-than-flattering names.
But the principles that drive Network Marketing and MLMs are sound ones because we do it every day. People typically tell friends when they find a great sale on shoes or school supplies. Or they tell their family members about a hilarious movie they saw or an interesting book they read. We all do it because it's in our DNA to share valuable information--especially when we can save our family and friends a few bucks in today's rough and tumble economy.

From a personal point of view, I would never consider a business opportunity that required me to purchase products that I would have to later sell to family and friends. And who wants a bunch of unused stuff lying around in your garage? This won't happen because you're selling sought-after information, not things that most people can't afford.

I also learned that such opportunities afford people the chance to get started on building a successful business with very few upfront costs. In today's cash-strapped economy, that's a big selling point.

But here's the bottom line. Thirty years of experience has taught me that there's no free lunch. All successful businesses require hard work, commitment and dedication. If anyone tells you anything different, you know you're being duped.

What's more, launching any small business requires people to do their homework. Finding credible, common sense information is the best way to move forward and achieve financial independence.
