The following five points should be considered when you are buying a new mattress as these can be the difference between a good product and a shoddy product.
1. Support. The whole point of a mattress is to provide you with adequate support whilst you’re sleeping – and because you spend around 9 hours of your day in bed, you need the best quality support that you can find so ensure maximum comfort. A well-supported mattress will also give you less trouble with regards to your body shape and any back problems that might arise from having a poor mattress.
2. Comfort. This point is a direct result of the former, and because everyone sleeps differently, no particular mattress will suit everyone, so you must find out which is best for you by doing your research. Most stores allow you to lie on the mattress for as long as you want so take advantage of this! Remember that you’ll have a sheet between you and the mattress at home – this adds to the comfort.
3. Durability. Mattresses don’t come cheaply, so it’s a good idea to get one that is durable and will last you a long time. You should look at a mattress as an investment, because it should last you around 8-10 years, so invest in quality as opposed to picking the cheap option.
4. Space. You move around during your sleep, so pick a mattress that will accommodate for this. Also consider the size of your bed and what kind of mattress will fit on it! Some mattresses, such as a memory foam mattress, will accommodate for your movements during the night and absorbs the shape of your body.
5. Don’t go for savings. As mentioned previously, a mattress should be considered as a long-term investment as it will likely last you 8-10 years. Don’t go for the cheap option, as you will end up replacing it after a year or even after a few months, and in the long run, it will cost you more than if you had simply gone for a high-quality product in the first place.
