The popular beach hippy look, with wavy hair and long dresses has undergone a revival and become more popular in recent years, which means that a high maintenance look such as completely straight hair in the summer is not as necessary. The sales of hair straighteners go up in the autumn and winter.

Hair straighteners are popular in western countries, but are predominantly used in the United Kingdom and in America. This is possibly because of the celebrity culture that exists in these countries, which is not as prevalent in other areas of the world. The need to look good and emulate the rich and famous is seen more in the western world, and teenagers and much more likely to copy celebrity style.
