Initially perfumes were used for religious purposes, later on men and people used them to smell sweeter and also to attract the opposite sex. Unlike today, in those days perfumes were reserved for elite classes like royal and wealthy families. Today perfumes have become a household name and there are around 3,000 varieties of perfumes flooded in the market for men, women, and children.
These huge collections of perfumes really leave people confused while choosing the right kind of perfume for men and women. Generally, Cologne is meant for men and perfumes for women. Men use scents since thousands of years all over the world. Today men's fragrance is a combination of rich and aromatic scents packed in beautiful stylish small bottles.
The main ingredients used in making men's perfume are alcohol and fragrant oils. The other ingredients include Fougere, Spices, Chypre, Woody and extracts from flowers and fruits that have less sweetness. The men's cologne is diluted frequently and lasts only for few hours where as women's perfume last even for next day. Men's perfumes normally come in spray models in order to cover more parts of the body.
Another significant difference between men and women perfume is that men's perfume contains a fair amount of alcohol where as oils are used primarily in preparing women's perfumes. Most of the men's colognes contain flavors like Rose lavender, Orchids, Iris, and Jasmines. Flower scents are used widely in making men's fragrances as they are popular among the men folk. Apart from these flavors, musk is one of the most admired secretions by men though it is very expensive. Modern technology provides synthetically made musk oil that costs much lesser than the original one.
Cologne is also made from spices like cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamom, and pepper that are widely used by men from all age groups. Citrus family scents that are made from fruit flavors like Lemon, Tangerine, Mandarin, Grape, and Berge mount are also known to be good men scent varieties. Azzaro's Chrome is one of the top selling men's cologne brands since 1996. This is basically a citrus scent with a blend of lavender, sandalwood, ginger, rosewood, and bergamot on Ivy and Oakwood base.
